"A jump shot can get you a shoe deal, a big house, a supermodel, fancy cars, a bunch of yes men, a Swiss bank account. But none of these things can get you a jump shot" - Allen Iverson

TROPHY HUNTING®️ is a brand about inspiration & aspiration. Some of the best advice I’ve been given about achieving goals, is to “say it out loud”. Hold yourself accountable for the challenge. Once you say it and people hear it, you’re either a “dreamer” or a “doer”. It’s great to have dreams, but it’s even better to achieve them. Every day I wake up in search of my personal trophies. The journey/process to achievement is what drives me everyday to create. I’m Thankful for everyone that I’ve worked along side and inspired me, challenged me to do better. To anyone that wears my clothes, products, appreciates my art & illustrations or follows my work in any capacity, I appreciate you. Always remember, the act of hunting is often the trophy. Shoot your shot. Happy hunting!

New Trophy Hunting Art Gallery T-Shirt Collection

Art meets sport in this 5 t-shirt and hoodie offering from Trophy Hunting. For this collection,

Inspiration:

I wanted to bring the 2 things that motivate me and inspire me every day. My work is always centered around the value of success. From gold awards to money in the bank to a new job... When creating for Trophy Hunting, I wanted to make sure that we look at trophies as a representation for winning. Cars, statues in front of sports arenas, money, new toys, a degree… anything that you look to as a symbol for your accomplishment.

"AIR CASH MONEY MILLIONAIRE" for ZION WILLIAMSON & Jordan Brand By Dustin O. Canalin

AIR_ZION_IG_BYDOC_LAT.jpg AIR_ZION_IG_BYDOC_back.jpg zion-ad copy.jpg

Although this shoe will never come out (well, you never know, hint, hint Zion and Jordan Brand), I wanted to show my inspirations on imagining products through my art.

Pen and Pixel, has blinged out album covers since the early 90’s. Most notably Master P & his No Limit Records as well as Juvenile and Cash Money Records. Both from New Orleans. I was alway drawn to these covers. During the rush of southern hip hop artists in the 90’s and early 2000’s pen and pixel was everywhere. There style has inspired a lot of my work in the past.

This shoe was inspired by the Juvenile’s 400 Degreez Album. As a rookie Juvie was as anticipated as they come especially in New Orleans. I wanted to draw the comparison to Zion in the most literal way since that’s how the Pen & Pixel albums were created.

Also check out a project I created for Nike x Pen & Pixel for the 2017 All-Star Game in New Orleans

FOR INSPIRATION ONLY : RUN TMC POSTER

public.jpeg

Run TMC has inspired my work to this day. One of the first “brands” that was in form of a basketball team. Run TMC provided endless inspiration on and off the court that led to a ton of marketing and creative that produced hundreds of ads, products and messaging. You couldn’t help but root for them.

Run TMC made up of Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin. A pioneer in basketball culture, this trio is just as relevant today as it was almost 30 years ago. Check out the doc below that was produced by SC and narrated by the amazing Scoop Jackson to learn about them.

FOR INSPIRATION ONLY : EASTBAY CATALOGUES

public.jpg

Today we follow “experts” to show us what’s next based on months/years of strategy to build awareness of future products( I am guilty if this). When new stuff drops, we have alerts set to buy at once. Or head to resellers to pay the markup.

Back when the hunting was pure, and products didn’t drop every day, the sight of an @officialeastbay magazine was the first glimpse into deciding for yourself what you liked and wanted. The footwear from all brands, the clothing to match. Goal was to be the first or only person with it. Oh what a time. This particular cover was released and kicked off sales for the original JORDAN 11. Before this you had to catch the 1 second of the commercial that zoomed in on it or see it on a non HD TV during a game.  But if they were gone, you missed out. #sol Which is why these older styles have so much meaning today.

I wonder if when we look back 30 years from now what will have the same sentimental value to kids today?

Also shout out to the Kemp’s! 🏆🏀🔥 This is part of a larger series I’m working on and can’t wait to release.

FOR INSPIRATION ONLY - SLAM MAGAZINE

TimandLatrell.jpg

Before there was Ball Is Life or Overtime, we had to wait for SLAM magazine to come once a month to get our inside hoop news. Sports Illustrated was for old people and there wasn’t anyone covering basketball the way SLAM did. Shout out to one of my favorite writers Scoop Jackson. I read every single article he wrote in SLAM (Especially Nice & Smooth with Tim Hardaway and Latrell Sprewell) . I always said, that without SLAM, VHS Highlight tapes and Nike, I don’t know what I’d be doing for a living.

Since I grew up in the Bay Area, it was magazines like SLAM, Vibe and The Source that made NYC culture so interesting to me. I’m glad to have met a lot of the people who made SLAM happen and helped brands like AND 1 and any other basketball inspired people like myself to bigger things.

FOR INSPIRATION ONLY - DR. J'S BASKETBALL STUFF

JRJ-video2.jpg

Growing up I used to search for anything basketball. Looking at any video store for anything basketball, helped my understand why my dad like these older players. Looking back now, I’m glad I was able to educate myself. As the years went on the NBA had more videos to watch, and I saw them and studied them all. I’m still and avid collector and will some day curate a playlist. But in the meantime, enjoy!

QUIET STORM: THE RON ARTEST STORY shines a spotlight on the polarizing athlete who was at times feared and often misunderstood both on and off the basketball court. The film includes intimate interviews from the man now known as Metta World Peace, his former teammates and rivals, his loved ones and family.

6.23. - HAPPY GO HOOP DAY

GOHoopday-2019.jpg

Go Hoop Day kicks off today for the 2nd time ever with celebrations all over the U.S. Thousands of people got outside, in the gym or wherever there was a ball and a hoop to celebrate the game we all love. I was able to get out and get a few shots up but I wanted to celebrate the best way I know how to today. Thank you basketball for providing infinite inspiration. I hope my work reminds you of why you love the game.
